What to do Summer 2019

Last week we talked about what to expect when you stay here at TE. We touched on the check-in process, the grounds, and the houses, however, this week we will touch on things to do this summer, and hopefully, we will fit in something for everyone who is coming to stay. For the Adults;

We are centrally located to many great wineries, breweries, and distilleries, many of which are offering tasty food selections as well.  Uber and Lyft will pick you up at our front door and drop you off anywhere you’d like to go.  There are also great beer and wine tour packages available in our area from Premiere #1 Limousine Service. They will pick you up and take throughout the local area to some of Central PA’s best vineyards and wineries or breweries.  You can choose a pre-set tour package or customize your very own. Just about 10 minutes from TE is Bube’s Brewery in Mount Joy, PA.  The brewery offers a few different dining venues as well hosting mystery dinners, Pirate and Medieval Feasts and a Roman dinner event with guests like Julius Ceasar.  A lot of the themed dinners and feast will take place in the famous Catacombs, which is a unique dining experience in a cavern underground that is linked to a cave system in Mount Joy.  For more information about their tours and special events, you can visit their website http://bubesbrewery.com/

Take in a musical at the Tabernacle on Saturdays from May through August in Mt. Gretna.  The musicals feature all types of music stylings that span decades.  There are no admission fees, just pay what you want.  The Timbers Restaurant & Dinner Theatre is another summer favorite of locals.  The offer dinner and shows Wednesdays through Saturdays.  The Gretna Theater will show several performances over the summer from Irving Berlin’s I Love a Piano to Murder Mystery shows. This is a fabulous old summer theatre that has been around since the 1920s.  Mr. Gretna has a lot of wonderful things to see and do and is only about 20 minutes away from our location.  For more information about Mr. Gretna’s summer festivals and other activities visit their website http://mtgretna.com/things-to-do/

The mid-state area has a nice selection of Antique dealers as well as antique vendor malls.  If you are in the Lancaster area, make sure to visit the Strasburg Antique Market. The market has several floors of antiques and collectibles to browse through as you make your way through a beautifully restored tobacco warehouse from 1898. For the kids and family;

Of course, we have Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland, even Chocolate World. We host a lot of families who come to the mid-state to visit these parks.  Don’t forget to check out the cool animals at Zoo America while you are here.  

 And if animals are your thing, you might also really enjoy a small safari tour in an open-air bus that covers 150 acres of pastures and woodlands that encounter a lot of exotic animals from around the world.  When you're done, be sure to go into the petting zoo.  Pack a picnic lunch or be sure to stop by 3B’s ice cream stand on the way.  https://www.laketobias.com/

If you decide to take your family to the Whitaker Center, don’t miss an opportunity to visit Select Medical’s Digital Cinema.  The movie screen itself is 38ft high and 70 ft wide and has a 20,000-watt surround system with 2-D and 3-D capabilities.

There are still a few remaining drive-in theaters not too far from TE, but it would only be about 40 minutes to 1.5 hours for the closest three.  Haar’s drive-in is in Dillsburg and that would be the closet, Cumberland Drive in Newville the next closest, and Sky-Vu Drive-in in Gratz, PA would be the farthest drive.  It might be a bit of a drive and off the beaten path but if you’re visiting from an area that doesn’t have any of these theater’s left, it might be a once in a lifetime experience for some.

There are also, lots of dirt tracks, sprint car racing, drag racing, monster trucks, truck pulls and go-cart racing.  We have several amateur sports teams in the area, including the Lancaster Barnstormers baseball team, the Harrisburg Senators and the Hershey Bears Hockey Team.

We can refer you to several local spas if you are interested in a massage, a facial, a spa day or perhaps even a chocolate spa. Melt in Hershey offers an array of chocolate therapies, also Emerald Springs is located in Hershey, and right here just five minutes away in Elizabethtown is Kairos Massage & Skincare if you are looking to indulge and renew during your stay.

We have an abundant selection of state parks and hiking trails, and the newest Northwest River Trail is not far from us.  The trail winds along the scenic Susquehanna River and is great for walking, running, and biking and recently was paved in most areas. Or there is just relaxing by the ponds here at TE.  Bring your lounge chairs and take in some nice relaxing downtime to reset and recharge yourself. There is plenty of space to drop a mat and do an early morning workout or practice yoga. There’s nothing like taking in the sounds of nature on a sunny spring or summer day.
