The Houses: The Dingo
September 2, 2018

The Dingo is one of the most unique and personal homes we have here at Tiny Estates (TE). It comes to us as an investor unit from Philadelphia, PA where it was built by Nicholas Orso and Elizabeth-Rose Goerlitz.

Both Nicholas and Elizabeth are PA natives and ventured away from the state for a while and then returned and have been residing in Philadelphia ever since. After receiving his degree from Drexel University in Civil Engineering, Nicholas traveled the country and world following his career. He lived in places such as Sierra Leone, Panama and Puerto Rico.

Elizabeth moved to Florida, graduated from high school in the Orlando area and received a degree in Event Management from the University of Central Florida before she decided to return to PA.

They both took great pleasure in the process of designing and building this house on their own, except for hanging the drywall, which he says, he has no patience for. It seemed to be a passion project by nature for them both. When we asked “What was your inspiration for building a tiny home” their response was;
“We were inspired by a lot of different things, but the DIY nature of tiny houses was a main draw for us. The ability to design and build our own tiny house, with our own hands, was too much to turn down. The realization that the current housing options for most people are unsustainable, both in an energy and financial aspect, weighed on our minds. The simplicity of a tiny house, which we had planned to use as a mobile cabin, seemed to make sense for us. We love the outdoors – hiking, kayaking, etc. – and this influenced our design a lot – we tried to make it as open and light and airy as possible.”

The name Dingo comes from their dog, Clark. Clark who is partly dingo came into their lives in the middle of construction on the tiny home. He traveled with them each day as they went to work on the build. Clark grew up watching them build and finish the tiny house. When we asked them what they would like to name their home, they said “We love him so much that it just made perfect sense to give him a nod through the name.” So, there you have it, the meaning behind the name, Dingo, which is a frequent question we get asked on our tours.

For now, you can stay in the Dingo, and see all the personal touches Nicholas and Elizabeth put into their home. It is unique in that it has a sunken kitchen with custom skate board tiles added to the back splash as well as a custom cabinet featuring skate board designs. The bathroom is very large for a tiny house and is also sunken. It has a large horse water trough bathtub for nice long hot soaks! The colors of blue really pop throughout the house, especially with the filtered light coming in the windows on the double entry doors. This house has so much personality and charm and is also pet friendly for potential guests who want to bring along their pets. So, if you’re looking for something a little different and unique, this is a great house to choose.

And, although, the Dingo currently resides with us at Tiny Estates, Nicholas and Elizabeth may decide in their future to live in the Dingo or use it as their personal weekend cabin as it was originally intended.  Their plans for the future of the Dingo are still unknown, but they are open to all future possibilities. For now, they are new investors and are going to leave the Dingo here at TE open to the curious and adventurous who want to come explore unique tiny possibilities.
