The Houses: The Green Bean

The Green Bean is probably one of the most unique houses that we have at Tiny Estates. This house is owned and built by Cody, who is 23 and was TE (Tiny Estates) first full-time resident. Named for his love of green beans, the house is 24’ long and has two custom wood entry doors on the side, two loft spaces and obviously, is green. One door on the left is entry to the main living area, and the door on the right is entry to a custom carpentry work shop. However, since moving into TE, Cody now has access to a much larger work shop and is in the process of converting the workshop area of his tiny home into a first-floor bedroom.

Cody graduated from Millersville University with a degree in Applied Engineering and Technology management, with a focus in CADD, which helped him with his design for his tiny home. At first Cody was against tiny homes when he first saw them, but then as he got older and his needs changed, he became interested in the tiny lifestyle, more interested in experiences and less interested in material things and what a tiny lifestyle could offer him. He later decided that instead of using money for a down payment on a traditional home, he would build his own tiny home and be mortgage free. This meant a world of new opportunities, a new lifestyle with less stress and financial obligation, and many possibilities for the future with owning a THOW.

He spent the summer with his father learning how to build a home and the ins and outs of the uniqueness of building a tiny home. From this experience with his father, came wonderful lifelong memories he will cherish always.  From childhood, Cody loved taking things apart and putting them back together, he loved Legos and Mega blocks and trying to figure out how things worked, so this was a perfect opportunity for him to bring his childhood love to life. 

Another unique feature of the Green Bean is the custom catwalk Cody designed and fabricated for his cat to travel from loft to loft. It maintains a pleasing aesthetic form on the ceiling while being functional for his cat to hop around on.

Cody is an employee at TE, he does various tasks including grounds keeping, maintenance and because he also resides here, he can oversee the property after office hours. He also has been building and carving the name signs that are placed on each of the tiny homes.

Cody hopes to one day use his tiny home as a retreat cabin for his future family, he would also like to build more tiny homes and possibly have some investment tiny homes. He does offer some advice for anyone considering going tiny, he says “Do it! Make the necessary changes in your life to free yourself from the expectation’s society puts forth.  Embrace the unknown and have the courage to take on a potentially life-changing new frontier.”

The Houses:   The Skyline The Skyline is one of the newest additions to our already great lineup of tiny homes.   But if you are looking for something a little different, this house has some great unique features. 274sq ft doesn’t seem like a lot of space, but you will be surprised at how well this space has been designed.   It sleeps up to 6 people with two queen lofts and a fold out sofa. The Houses: The Low Country September 9, 2018  Many of you maybe already familiar with the Low Country. It made a quite an impression when it arrived here at Tiny Estates, and for good reason. This tiny house has big personality and lots of rustic style. Built on a 39 ½’ gooseneck trailer, this low country rustic timber home has plenty of space with 379sq ft of space to call home. When you open the custom wood door and walk in, you get a beautiful aroma of fresh cut lumber. Everyone walks in and takes in a big whiff, breathe it in, it’s awfully nice. You’ll be amazed at the custom-built wood cabinetry with built wine glass holder, granite counter tops and full-size appliances. UPDATE: Brandi and Jon's Tiny Home Journey We first introduced you to Brandi and Jon in December 2018.  They are on their journey to tiny house ownership, and it’s been about two months and we want to give you an update on where they are in their process. When we last blogged about Brandi and Jon, they were scheduled to have a settlement on their 2000sq ft home on January 25th.  Just prior to this, they were informed that the buyer’s buyer had backed out of their offer on their home they were selling, and the buyers could no longer move forward with settlement on Brandi and Jon’s home.  This was a devastating blow to them both, as they all just took huge steps in this exciting yet scary process.  The family already paired down their large home, giving away almost all of their big furniture and many important items to family and friends, so now what?
