The Houses: The Empire
July 29, 2018
Nestled away quietly across the pond in Tiny Estates (TE) you
will find a lovely little red farmhouse named The Sunset. It’s just around the
second bend between the Low Country and the Dingo, one of our newest arrivals.
The Sunset came to us as a 24’ Liberation Tiny Homes farmhouse
build, it is one of four farmhouses that we have on the property. This home has
a comfortable quaint feel, with beautifully stained wood, a peaked roof and
accents of red color throughout the main living area, loft, kitchen and bathroom.
The next house in our blog series is the Empire. This home
is a 24' farmhouse and is humble, charming and honestly, it isn't what you'd would
think of when you hear the name Empire. It's not grand, it's not large, but it
is beautiful, comfortable, perfectly detailed and sits quietly on the edge of
the pond.
The Empire is just one of four in our farmhouse collection.
Made by Liberation Tiny Homes and decorated by Abby Hobson (Tiny Estates
CEO) it's the perfect place for a romantic getaway, girls’ weekend or family
retreat. It has a large deck for outdoor sitting, with Adirondack chairs and
wood burning fire pits just a few steps from the deck, by the water.
The name Empire came to be as TE (Tiny Estates) was in
development, and people joked that Abby was building an Empire. Okay, so
they are tiny homes, they aren't big, but one day, the dream, the future, could
very well be an Empire.
Growing up local, in Manhiem Township, Abby had an early start
on her education in foreign language, and she currently holds degrees in
Spanish, Chinese, International Business and Marketing. Graduating from
University of Delaware, in 2014, she wasted no time getting busy with work in
Forensic Investigations. This led her to living abroad and having
opportunities to travel to many countries all over the world for both work and
pleasure.
Along with her education, many talents and growing experience,
Abby always had a passion for interior design and was moved when she saw tiny
homes emerging. After visiting a tiny home jamboree in Colorado, she
bought a frame and began building her own, but quickly found that she would be
faced with many challenges with zoning and had nowhere to go with her home. She
was not going to take no for an answer, and she didn't. Determined to
change the minds of local government, she learned as much as she could about
zoning, codes, regulations, tiny homes, and she eventually succeeded in
obtaining land and zoning for 100 tiny homes to build at TE. This was no easy
task, and Abby truly is pioneering the way in South Central PA. She will
continue this path and her vision and intends to build more TE resorts across
the country in the future.
Abby, and future husband Ryan, just recently purchased a 27'
Thomas school bus and are converting it into a Skoolie, another type of THOW.
They intend to spend all of January on the road, for their honeymoon,
driving the open road from PA to California and back, living tiny. As far
as living tiny in the future, she is hoping to stay in her bus here on the
property when they return. Abby hopes that in doing so, it will help her
prioritize her possessions, unclutter and remove "stuff" from her
life and it will allow her to spend more time with loved ones and enjoy the
little things in life more.
Abby is the heartbeat of TE, and a dedicated and driving force
in this tiny, yet large movement. She is motivated and driven to keep
moving the mission forward and be an advocate for tiny home owners everywhere.
People may have joked about her building an Empire, but have no doubt,
with her passion and dedication, an Empire it soon may be.
