The Houses: The Chairman

June 30, 2018

The first house in our new blog series, "The Houses", is the “Chairman” and it’s quite an appropriate name for this tiny dwelling.  It may be tiny in size but is big in character.  The chairman sits quietly just off the water at the entrance to Tiny Estates, and much like a chairman who oversees, this Chairman oversees the front of the property.

The name of this home was chosen by Dan Hobson, who is a developing partner and Chairman of the Board of Tiny Estates.  When you visit, or see pictures of our homes, you will notice wooden signs hanging on each house.  The signs feature the name of the house and below the name is the person for whom the house was named for.

The Chairman, which is also known by its builder as, the Blue Heron, is quite unique in that it is ten feet wide, whereas almost all tiny homes on wheels, are 8.5' by restriction of travel laws.  Built by Blue Sky Tiny Homes in Indiana, this home is 27' long and is 270 square feet. Due to the extra width, it required special permits and transportation to travel here from Indiana. The Chairman didn’t come easy.  After obtaining all the special permits required for the long trip, from the Midwest, to PA, Blue Skye began the long haul.  Part way through, the truck hauling the house began having mechanical issues and shortly thereafter was out of commission. The Chairman was now stuck in transit and new permits needed to be filed and obtained for the house to be transported by the new truck, which took an additional week.  So, it was quite a journey.

This big box design has tall 13.6' open ceilings and lots of windows that allow in natural light and a beautiful pond view.  Often you will find many mallard ducks resting under the shade of a tree in the front yard area.  There are two sleeping lofts and a fold out sleeping couch in the living room.  One loft is reached by normal steps with built in storage, and the other is a loft with ladder.  The kitchen is practically full size, featuring a larger refrigerator, dishwasher and full-size range, as well as, a custom- built kitchen island, that converts into a dining table for four.  The kitchen island/table conversion is great for meals, extra counter space, family game night or a nice desk if you are here working. Can you see yourself sipping a nice cup of tea or coffee sitting on the bench by the big window enjoying the sunrise?  The lush green grasses out front by the pond would make a great spot for some morning yoga or exercise.  The house also features a large bathroom with a washer/dryer combo and walk in shower with a seat.  The Chairman can sleep 5-6 people and is a perfect house for someone who loves a view of nature and enjoys lots of natural light.
